“You know – I can tell a man of your means needs to have a mount that matches your position,” the sly fox smiled, looking at his customer.
“I think she could be a nice ride.“ He looks at the sly fox, his hand stroking the soft gentle fur of the small mare.
The fox slides his arm around the bunny, “You don’t mind me asking your name?“
“Melvin,“ the bunny says, not even noticing the fox sliding him away from his choice mare.
“Melvin, pleased to meet you. My close friends call me honest Joe and I am here to prevent you from making a dangerous mistake... a mistake you would regret for the rest your life,“ he says with a smile. They walk by horses and donkeys which are growing larger, more powerful... each one more than adequate to take Melvin places. “Melvin, A man of your stature needs a horse that matches that stature – and I have just that horse.“
Joe turns Melvin around and shows him the most powerful stallion on the lot. He paws the ground, snorting, looking at Melvin exuding an overwhelming feeling of bestial power.
“There Melvin – there is your horse. He’s a true beauty isn’t he!“
Melvin moves his own hand onto the horse He can feel the stallion’s thick fur vibrating with a raw energy. He moves his hand gently stoking the coat of the powerful beast.
The stallion snorts and rears, making Melvin back up hastily.
“Whoa!“ Joe grabs the reigns and pets the beast's nose. “Calm down, Thunder! Calm down, boy!“
Melvin brushes himself off. “I think he might be a little too wild for me“
“Nonsense!“ Joe says urging the bunny closer to the monster. “You don’t want anything smaller than him.“ He swings the bruised bunny around so his stare is locked on the mighty stallion. “Just imagine going down the streets, the ladies all coming up and saying, 'There goes Marvelous Melvin! I wish he would let me ride his big mighty steed!'" The fox flutters his eyelids like a teenage groupie looking at a rock star.
Melvin gets a far away look, blinks and murmurs “Seriously...“
“Truly!“ The fox looks back framing his hands so he can help the bunny imagine.
“Really“ Melvin blinks imaging him riding with a vixen down the streets.
“Absolutely! Or my name isn’t Honest Joe! Oh, look!“ He points at a little squirrel who is walking towards them. “There’s Greg. He was saying, just the other day that he was thinking of purchasing this fine stee... HEY!“
Even before he could finish the sentence, Melvin reaches into his pocket and grabs enough money from his moneybag to pay for the massive steed and shoving it into Joe’s hand.
The wily fox counts the money. “Oh Melvin, you won’t regret this.“
Joe walks towards the squirrel, smiling. "Hey Greg, you're back from lunch just in time! Guess who just sold The Terror!"
The squirrel stares at his partner in disbelief. "No way! Who'd you unload THAT monster on?! Must've been a real giant to handle him!"
Honest Joe grins. "Oh yeah, he was a real tough guy! I'm sure he'll have The Terror eating out of his hand in no time!"
Melvin smiles gently at the powerful stallion. The stallion looks back at the little pipsqueak and snorts . The bunny climbs gingerly onto the horse's back. For a moment stallion and bunny stood proudly. The powerful beast is tamed.
for now...
