Childhood Circus Dreams
Ever since I was a child I wanted to be part of the circus
Not a clown
Not a Trapeze artist
But a tiger
With a snarl that would scare the audience
And roars that would shake the stands
Every night I would sit and dream
Of myself turning into a tiger
Jumping from platform to platform
And flaming hoop to hoop
With the oooh and ahhs of the crowds
With me smiling inside
I thought it was funny
and sometimes a little weird
But it was my dream never the less
Something I lived for
and hoped would happen
But soon the circus went away
And my dreams floated away
And I grew from a bright young lad
To a mature gentleman
Push away those childhood dreams and fantasy
Laughed at those dreams I had
Made fun of my own dreams
until they were a mocking memory
from my past
And instead I lived in the world of dollars and cents
A world where everything made sense
A boring,
black and white world
But today the circus came to town
And when I went there
For a moment I felt something,
something alive that I haven't felt for a while
When the circus performers came out
I felt like I was a kid again
Until I jumped from the ooohing audience
And stage my come back
And once more I was the raging tiger
Of my childhood circus days
And forever I would be
the reigning star of the circus
